Greece Little League Baseball Clinics

We have coordinated 8 weeks of training for GLL players leading up to the season. Players will receive 1 hour per week of defensive instruction at Greece Community Center and 45 minutes of unlimited hitting at The Battery on Saturdays. Visit our Website at http://www.greecelittleleague.org/ for more information or to register. Payment must be received by January 15th.

Little League Composite Bat Announcement

Williamsport just announced a ban on the use of composite bats in all divisions, the complete article is found on the GLL website.  Composite bats usually say so in writing on the label and cost $150 and higher.  Wood bats, aluminum and bats with composite materials in the handle only are allowed.  This ban follows on the heel of NCAA and LL’s decision on Junior Division and above this past September.  The decision was made for safety reasons.  Recently we received a list of manufacturer model waivers (bats are approved for use). More information can be found on our Website. http://www.greecelittleleague.org/

Concession Stand Update and Raffle

This past fall we completed the interior insulation at a cost of $6,253, site work in front of the windows and this month the interior drywall was installed at a cost of $9,948.  We have received some in-kind donations of furniture, coolers, freezers, three-bay sink, and lockers.  Our wish list includes an ice machine, fire extinguishers, cooking equipment, shop light fixtures, Knox Box for our defibrillator and building cleaning equipment.  If you know of anyone who would be willing to donate any of these items please let us know (we have made some inquiries to supermarkets and colleges already).

Next on the agenda is the interior plumbing and electrical, alarm system, sprinkler test, installation of railing and doors, painting the drywall and finishing the concrete around the perimeter of the building.  We are in the process of obtaining quotes for this work that is required prior to the Town of Greece granting us a temporary permit.

We will be having a raffle with some nice prizes including a 42” flat screen TV donated by RM Landscape, a Birthday Limo Package courtesy of LeGault Limo and $100 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift certificates for the top baseball and softball ticket sellers.  If you know of anyone that would donate additional items please let us know.

Safety

Our league participates in the ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program) annually required by LL.  As we gear up for the 2011 season please check over any bats, gloves and other equipment to be sure it is safe, meets LL standards and fits the player. If your child plans to attend the training clinics, please have them do some exercises at home or warm-ups to ease into play.

Sponsors

Little League Moms’ Favorite Cookbook Recipe

Mini Muffin Pizzas

½ cup ketchup

¼ cup French’s Classic Yellow mustard

4 English Muffins, split and toasted

1 cup (4 ounces) shredded mozzarella cheese

2 hot dogs, cut in slices

Combine ketchup and mustard.  Spread on muffins.  Sprinkle with cheese.  Arrange hot dog slices on top, garnish (onions, peppers etc if desired).  Place on baking sheet.  Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.  Makes 4 servings.

Divisional program restructuring

Our Board of Directors discussed the possibility of modifying our “AA”, “AAA” and “Major” divisions back to the prior “Minor” and “Major” divisions to provide the league more flexibility.  It was voted on and approved at the 1/9 board meeting to defer any possible changes until the 2012 season.
